ANGERANG: Thousands of workers of PT Sandrafine Garment staged a rally by blocking entrance to the company’s factory on Jl. Siliwangi, Tangerang municipality, on Friday in protest of the company’s failure to comply with the Banten Gubernatorial Decree on the 2012 monthly wage regulation.
“We started the rally on Thursday and we will continue until there is a response from the management,” said Uriana, the chairman of Garment and Textile Workers Association Federation at the company.
She said that the administration had set the monthly minimum wage for workers at Rp 1.52 million (US$165.68).
According to Uriana, the management paid them less than the minimum wage and had proposed to the administration to suspend the implementation of the decree.
The company’s management refused to meet journalists for confirmation and requested that they leave the factory compound.
